Bruker Daltonics, Inc.. (5/20/02). "Press Release: Matritech and Bruker Daltonics Announce Partnership for Proteomics-Based Cancer Screening by Mass Spectrometry". Newton & Billerica, MA.

Matritech Inc. (NASDAQ: NMPS) and Bruker Daltonics Inc. (NASDAQ: BDAL) announced today that they have formed a partnership to develop an automated mass spectrometer system that will allow clinical laboratories to efficiently perform Matritech's proteomics-based cancer tests, including blood tests for breast and prostate cancer. Under the agreement, Bruker Daltonics and Matritech will collaborate to optimize Bruker Daltonics' mass spectrometers to perform Matritech's proprietary cancer screening tests. Matritech's NMP66(TM) blood-based breast cancer test and its NMP48(TM) blood-based prostate cancer test will both be automated using the Bruker Daltonics system, with additional cancer tests to follow. It is anticipated that the new system will utilize MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, automated sample handling, reagent kits and clinical bioinformatics.

"Bruker Daltonics is delighted to expand its presence in clinical proteomics, particularly in the field of early detection of cancer," said John Wronka, Ph.D., vice president of Bruker Daltonics. "Early detection of these diseases is one of the crucial factors in saving lives."

"Bruker Daltonics and Matritech are developing a turn-key mass spectrometry system for cancer testing," said David Corbet, chief operating officer and president of Matritech. "This system will enable Matritech's clinical laboratory partners to deliver our blood-based breast and prostate cancer tests to market as quickly as possible."

About Matritech

Matritech is a leading developer of proteomics-based diagnostic products for the early detection of cancer. Using its patented proteomics technology, Matritech has identified proteins correlated with breast, bladder, prostate, cervical and colon cancers. Matritech is one of the first companies to successfully employ proteomics to create diagnostic products. The Company holds one of only two FDA tumor marker approvals for the initial detection of cancer. The FDA-approved NMP22 bladder cancer test is currently used by urologists. In addition, the Company has a promising blood-based breast cancer test, NMP66, in clinical trials. Initial research on a prostate cancer marker, NMP48, identified by Matritech scientists shows the marker to be more accurate than the widely used PSA test. NMP technology is licensed exclusively to Matritech from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. About Bruker Daltonics Bruker Daltonics is a leading provider of innovative life science tools based on mass spectrometry. Its substantial investment in research and development allows it to design, manufacture and market a broad array of products intended to meet the rapidly growing needs of a diverse customer base, including pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, proteomics companies, molecular diagnostics companies, academic institutions and government agencies. Bruker Daltonics has diverse technology platforms that integrate automated sample preparation and clean-up, advanced front-end AnchorChiptm MALDI targets and API source technology with cutting-edge proprietary MALDI-TOF, MALDI-TOF/TOF, ESI-TOF, ESI-Q-q-TOF, ion trap and FTMS mass analyzers, as well as analysis and bioinformatics software. Bruker Daltonics is also a worldwide leader in supplying mass spectrometry-based systems for substance detection and pathogen identification in security, defense and anti-terrorism applications.
