Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced the appointment of Dr. Tachi Yamada to its board of directors. Dr. Yamada currently serves as president of the Global Health Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a position he has held since June 2006.

Prior to joining the Gates Foundation, Dr. Yamada was chairman of research and development for GlaxoSmithKline Inc., and previously held research and development positions at SmithKline Beecham. Dr. Yamada also served as chairman of the department of internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and Physician-in-Chief of the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Bill Sullivan, Agilent president and CEO said, "With his experience as the president of the Global Health Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as his significant research and development background, Dr. Yamada adds a new dimension to our Board. In addition, his extensive pharmaceutical industry knowledge coupled with his medical background gives him a unique insight into a number of issues facing Agilent that will serve us well as we continue to grow our life sciences business.
