Bruker Daltonics Inc. (NASDAQ: BDAL) and GeneProt(TM), Inc. today announced that GeneProt will upgrade its mass spectrometry capabilities at its proteomics factory in Geneva, Switzerland. In December 2001, GeneProt already received a new UltraFlex(TM) TOF/TOF system from Bruker Daltonics for its Geneva proteomics research laboratory. Now, GeneProt has contracted with Bruker Daltonics to upgrade all of its 45 existing ion trap mass spectrometers to the latest esquire3000plus performance level over the next 4-8 months. This is expected to increase the sensitivity and lower the minimum detection levels for low-abundance proteins dramatically, by up to an order of magnitude.
Specifically, GeneProt has converted its November 2001 order for six UltraFlex TOF/TOF systems for its planned North Brunswick, New Jersey facility into an order for upgrading its existing Geneva proteomics facility to state-of-the-art performance. Whilst the new facility in New Jersey, USA remains an option, GeneProt has decided to concentrate its existing resources in Geneva, Switzerland for the remainder of 2002. If GeneProt continues with the expansion of its facilities in the U.S. next year, GeneProt will have the option to acquire UltraFlex TOF/TOF systems for New Jersey at that time.
Frank Laukien, President and CEO of Bruker Daltonics, commented: "We are pleased to continue to work with our partner GeneProt on even further improving their very impressive proteomics capabilities in Geneva. GeneProt has already tested one of our latest-generation esquire3000plus ion trap systems in Geneva, and they have seen a dramatic sensitivity improvement. We are delighted that GeneProt has again chosen cutting-edge ion trap technology for its state-of-the art proteomics facility in Geneva."
