The bioprocess optimization company durakult and Metabolomic Discoveries have agreed to join forces in microbial research to support clients in both the food and bioprocessing industry.
Joint research efforts will focus on a number of fields: process optimization of microorganisms to create new or to improve production lines; natural compound identification to use as natural additives or to produce functional food; strain phenotyping to help customers narrow down or simplify fermentation starters or production strains; flavour identification and optimization to enhance taste and aroma in natural products or use as natural additives in food manufacturing, cosmetics and other industries.
durakult is a biotech company and a spin-off of the Institute of Microbiology (AG Prof. R. Mutzel) of the Freie Universität of Berlin. Since 2007 durakult operates with an increasing number of employees directly at campus of this top notch university to resolve problems for clients in the food and chemical industry. durakult develops and optimizes productions strains and fermentation starters for the biotechnological production of chemicals, renewable energies and food on the basis of biofilms. The underlying fundamental technology is the durakult®-bioreactorsystem (patent applied), which is able to avoid using methods of genetic engineering. Furthermore, durakult provides microbiological services like lab scale fermentation, research assignments (e.g. screening of new microorganisms), troubleshooting of microbial processes and strain maintenance.
