Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO), the world leader in serving science, will highlight its most recent advances in life science mass spectrometry at the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) annual conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 23-27, 2010.
The company's leading Thermo Scientific portfolio of mass spectrometry (MS) solutions will be showcased along with an expanded line of liquid chromatography (LC/MS) and gas chromatography (GC-MS) systems to offer the most advanced analytical technologies available today. At ASMS 2010, Thermo Fisher will introduce a new suite of software products that reinvents mass spectrometry-based workflows, leveraging the full power of its leading mass spectrometry instruments to improve analytical performance and results. The combination of software, instruments, consumables and reagents in these workflows sets new standards for performance in proteomics, drug discovery and development, water analysis and food safety. For more information regarding the company's comprehensive workflow solutions, visit the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salons 250BCEF.
"At ASMS this year, we are highlighting new instruments, sample handling and software systems that leverage our industry-leading mass spectrometry technologies to create powerful qualitative and quantitative solutions for our customers," said Marc N. Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific. "Building on the tremendous success of our Orbitrap* platform, we are transforming the way our customers study diseases, discover new drugs, test water quality and ensure food safety - delivering on our mission of enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer."
Driving Bold Progress
Thermo Fisher Scientific is driving bold progress by making mass spectrometry available to customers with varying degrees of training and experience, for a growing range of workflow applications.
The focus at this year's show is on the advancements being made in sample preparation and on the innovative workflows enabled by a new suite of software products. One example is the Thermo Scientific EASY-nLCII Nano HPLC, an integral part of a proteomics workflow. Its ease of use and compatibility with advanced MS systems make it an essential tool for proteomics research.
Proteomics researchers are better able to manage complex workflows and research results with new Thermo Scientific software. For discovery-based proteomics, Thermo Fisher is launching the next version of Proteome Discoverer*, which now supports a wide range of labeling techniques for quantitative proteomics, including SILAC and newly introduced Cysteine-Reactive Tandem Mass Tags (TMTs). For targeted protein quantitation, Thermo Fisher is introducing Pinpoint*, which enables researchers to convert biomarker discovery information directly into quantitative assays for verification. Pinpoint is designed for high-throughput, large-scale targeted protein quantitation and incorporates information from global protein and peptide databases.
Thermo Fisher Scientific has also developed workflow software for drug discovery and development, including drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK). The new Thermo Scientific Metquest software suite enables DMPK laboratories to take full advantage of Orbitrap's high-resolution accurate-mass (HRAM) data to simultaneously identify and quantitate metabolites in a single experiment.
Efficiency and Productivity in Routine Applications
The simple-to-operate Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum XLS sets new standards for triple quadrupole GC-MS performance. The TSQ Quantum XLS* improves laboratory efficiency and throughput by identifying and analyzing a large number of compounds in a single analytical run and features up to 10,000 selected reaction monitoring (SRM) scans programmed in one chromatogram. The robust design of the system allows for greater flexibility, high-speed data acquisition and more sample runs, further increasing laboratory productivity.
In the QA/QC laboratory, customers must quickly and accurately screen and quantitate a growing number of contaminants in extremely complex matrices at increasingly lower levels. For example, water samples that may contain traces of pesticides are analyzed to identify potential sources of contamination. This can be a slow and often error-prone process. Thermo Scientific EQuan MAX combines the most effective methods for separating complex matrices and identifying traces of pesticides in water so that the safety of drinking-water can be ensured.
