Waters Corporation and InfoChem GmbH today announced a collaboration whereby InfoChem's chemical reaction search technology and data collection will be integrated into Waters® eLab Notebook Software. Waters eLab Notebook Software allows researchers to capture, process and record data of all types in a completely digital environment. With today's announcement, scientists will be able to design synthesis experiments using a search engine and an extensive library of chemical reactions as a valuable source of chemical synthesis knowledge.

Many of today's laboratories still use paper notebooks to document and store results, which are generated, cut and pasted from a variety of different software products. eLab Notebook Software centrally stores all results electronically for enterprise-wide access. Intelligent searches, including substructure and spectra similarity searches, allow easy retrieval of experimental information based on the analytical results that can then be incorporated into eLab Notebook content.

"Today's announcement extends the automation capability of eLab Notebook Software to further increase laboratory productivity and efficiency for researchers performing chemical synthesis work,"said Pat Martell, Director of Informatics at Waters. "The InfoChem reaction search engine allows much faster and easier design of synthesis experiments. Our combined solution also allows researchers to access reaction databases that are already used by our customers."

InfoChem's structure and reaction search capabilities are based on the InfoChem Chemistry Cartridge™ which is designed to integrate chemical structure and reaction retrieval into relational databases. The application uses InfoChem's Fast Search Engine™ to handle and search millions of structures and reactions. "Our Chemistry Cartridge has proven its exceptional searching and indexing performance with more than 20 million different structures and offers superior chemical features," said Peter Loew, Ph.D., Managing Director, InfoChem GmbH. "Additionally, we offer customers the possibility of licensing more than four million structures and more than three million chemical reactions in this technology."

Full integration of InfoChem's chemical reaction search capability will be included in the next version of eLab Notebook Software.
