Leco Corporation. (3/3/14). "Press Release: Leco and CDS Analytical Announce Relationship to Deliver Pyrolysis and High Performance GC-TOFMS". St. Joseph, MI.

LECO and CDS Analytical, two leaders in their respective analytical technologies, have begun a technology relationship that will enhance their own capabilities even further.

This collaboration interfaces programmable pyrolysis sample introduction from CDS with LECO gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS). The pairing will be available on the LECO Pegasus HT and 4D nominal mass systems, as well as the Pegasus GC-HRT high resolution system.

These analytical pairings provide key technical capabilities, including high speed and accurate mass, of vital significance to environmental, petrochemical, and polymer analysis. Representatives from both companies look forward to seeing researchers benefit from the new relationship.

"The union of technologies creates a powerful solution for many analytical chemists," said Lorne Fell, Ph.D., LECO's Separation Science Product Manager. "The ability to use the CDS pyrolysis system on samples uniquely requiring this introduction technique with characterization using an accurate mass GC-TOFMS provides unmatched information content. Further, the ability to perform a similar analysis and leverage the vast separation space offered by two-dimensional GC offers answers to the most vexing analytical problems. It allows the analyst to ask, 'What else is in my sample?'. The combination of high-performance, robust sample pyrolysis from CDS with high-performance MS or GC from LECO will provide unparalleled capabilities."

"Now the ability to fully characterize the pyrolysate produced from complex samples is available," said Gary Deger, Director of Marketing at CDS. "The combination of fast or multi-dimensional gas chromatography or high resolution mass spectrometry will empower users to the fullest. Accurate mass analysis will provide a mechanism by which the products of pyrolysis can be identified and monitored with the highest confidence and accuracy. And, the power of multi-dimensional gas chromatography will significantly increase the ability of researchers to separate peaks from complex pyrograms, particularly with biomass, oil, and geochemical samples."
