Bruker Daltonics, Inc.. (3/10/03). "Press Release: Bruker Daltonics Introduces Esquire HCT with UltraScan, a Novel High Capacity Trap for Faster, Even More Sensitive Bioanalysis. New Esquire HCT is Ten Times More Sensitive and Features 26 kDa/sec UltraSc
At PittCon 2003, Bruker Daltonics Inc. (NASDAQ: BDAL) today introduces the esquire HCT(TM), a novel ultra-high performance ion trap mass spectrometer for dramatically faster and more sensitive analysis in proteomics and metabolomics. This next-generation high capacity trap (HCT) combines substantially higher ion storage capacity with a proprietary ultrahigh-performance scan mode for the ultimate in ion trap research performance.
Specifically, in addition to greatly increased storage capacity for ions, the esquire HCT features the breakthrough UltraScan(TM) mode for 26,000 Dalton/second analysis, while retaining better than unit mass resolution. The UltraScan is thus 5-6 times faster than other older-generation ion traps or recent triple-quadrupole derived so-called "linear" traps. The esquire HCT also offers a unique fast PeptideScan(TM) mode that can differentiate doubly and triple charged peptides in proteomic analysis over the entire mass range, again at scan speeds that dramatically exceed other types of ion traps.
The HCT high capacity trap together with the UltraScan bring full m/z-scan ion trap sensitivities for metabolites into the sub-picogram level for the first time, an order of magnitude sensitivity improvement compared to existing ion traps. The sensitivity for proteomics is expected to reach the low to mid attomole range for many proteins, an order of magnitude improvement.
The esquire HCT is unique due to its standard m/z-range up to 3,000 Dalton, a very desirable feature for proteomics, and a necessity for API-MALDI ion trap mass spectrometry. The extended mass range scan can even reach up to 6,000 Dalton.
The new ultra-high performance esquire HCT, priced at $225,000, extends Bruker Daltonics' esquire ion trap mass spectrometry product line, which already includes the existing high-end research-grade esquire3000plus, as well as the more routine esquire2000 bioanalytical LC/MS/MS system. The new esquire HCT can be fully integrated into the Proteineer(TM) proteomics suite, combining automated sample preparation systems, advanced mass spectrometry and bioinformatics.
Frank H. Laukien, Ph.D., President and CEO, commented: "The esquire HCT represents a breakthrough in ion trap capabilities. We expect that in most performance aspects that matter to mass spectrometrists who perform proteomics or small-molecule structural analysis, it will outperform, in many cases very significantly, existing technologies and products. We are confident that the esquire HCT will be well received by demanding research customers."
