Bruker Daltonics, Inc.. (3/18/02). "Press Release: Bruker Daltonics Launches ultraflex™ Ultra-High Performance MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer". New Orleans, Louisiana.
At the Pittsburgh Conference 2002, Bruker Daltonics introduces the ultraflex™ MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer, the new performance standard for highest sensitivity and ultra-high resolution in proteomics and other applications. The ultraflex allows extremely fast, automated analyses, and provides maximum reliability of all system components for many millions of analyses. Using the same form factor as our recently launched MALDI-TOF/TOF, the new ultraflex allows for an upgrade to TOF/TOF.
The ultraflex benefits from Bruker Daltonics' leadership in high-throughput MALDI-TOF technology aimed at industrial biology. The MALDI sample targets have industry-standard microtitre plate (MTP) format, and are thus easily compatible with standard sample preparation robots. An optional robot is available for automated delivery of additional MTP MALDI targets into the ultraflex for unattended 24/7 operation. Our high-throughput ruggedized XY-stage, which has been developed for our autoflex™ MALDI-TOF, has also been implemented in the ultraflex. This unique MTP-sized XY-stage can move from sample spot to spot rapidly with excellent positional accuracy.
The ultraflex offers uncompromised standard MALDI-TOF MS performance. As its predecessor, the reflex IV, it incorporates proprietary designs, such as our unique gridless ion source and gridless reflectron for ultimate sensitivity and resolution. The ultraflex delivers the highest sensitivity for proteomics, and due to its longer flight path, even higher resolution and better mass accuracy.
The ultraflex utilizes our proprietary AnchorChip™ technology, which improves MALDI-TOF sensitivity typically by 1-2 orders of magnitude. AnchorChips also have the additional throughput advantage that they "anchor" the exact sample location and size on the target for robust and fast automation without time-consuming searches for samples or "sweet spots".
