Austrian BIOCRATES Life Sciences AG, a prime developer of metabolite biomarkers, announces the launch of its first CE-marked in vitro diagnostic SteroIDQ®. SteroIDQ® Kit allows for the simultaneous analysis of a panel of 16 steroid hormones using tandem mass spectrometry—all from a single blood sample.

BIOCRATES Life Sciences has just launched its first CE-marked in vitro diagnostic (IVD): SteroIDQ®. The SteroIDQ® Kit enables the most comprehensive simultaneous analysis of a steroid panel using tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) currently commercially available, covering the broadest range of potential endocrinological indications from a single blood sample.

Steroid hormones—messengers of life

Steroid hormones are essential to a multitude of physiological processes. Glucocorticoids, such as cortisol, play an important role in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism; mineralocorticoids, such as aldosterone, control the water and mineral household; androgens such as testosterone and estrogens, such as estradiol, regulate reproductive processes and are responsible for the shaping of secondary sexual characteristics. Derangements in any of the pathways controlling the steroid metabolism can have serious health consequences, which, due to their complexity and heterogeneity, may be difficult to diagnose. A comprehensive steroid hormone profile can help establish an accurate and fast diagnosis or differential diagnosis respectively, and initiate tailored and timely treatment.

SteroIDQ® - the “Ready-to-use” innovation

The SteroIDQ® Kit by Biocrates offers a unique experience in standardized steroid hormone analysis by simultaneously quantifying (‘multiplexing’) 16 different steroid hormones from only one blood sample. Analysis is based on tandem mass spectrometry, which meets the most stringent quality control criteria for routine diagnostics and ensures extraordinary analytical sensitivity and selectivity.
