Waters Corporation. (2/28/05). "Press Release: Waters Q-Tof Premier Mass Spectrometer now MALDI-enabled. A Premier Tool for Life Science Research". Orlando, FL.
Scientists attending PITTCON® 2005 will get a first look at the new, exchangeable vacuum MALDI source for the Waters® Micromass® Q-Tof Premier™ mass spectrometer. Targeted mainly at proteomics researchers, the Q-Tof Premier now allows scientists to switch between API and MALDI ionisation modes with relative ease, giving them maximum flexibility for analyzing proteins and other important biomolecules.
When needed, the motorized MALDI source which is situated within a modular housing, can be quickly raised into position, presented to the ion block and secured in place without tools. Scientists who want electrospray and MALDI on the same analytical platform will appreciate the ease with which they can switch from one mode to another. Importantly, this gives the researcher a convenient way to obtain high-quality exact mass MS and MS/MS data which is essential for confident identification of proteins and de novo sequencing of peptides, one of the most important applications for MALDI Q-Tof analysis.
The new MALDI source is compatible with high-capacity Micromass MALDI plates featuring up to 96 or 384 sample wells per plate. MS and MS/MS data acquisition is automated using data directed analysis in MassLynxTM software, while the ProteinLynxTM Global SERVER 2.2 Application ManagerTM carries out automated data processing and protein identification. Other features include user-controlled laser attenuation, a plate-visualizing camera system for fine-tuning the analysis of a particular sample or interrogating different compounds.
