908 Devices, a pioneer of purpose-built analytical devices for chemical analysis, today announced that it has been named a 2016 IHS Energy Innovation Pioneer by IHS, the leading source of insight, analytics and expertise in critical areas that shape today’s business landscape. This year’s pioneers were chosen based on their potential to transform the future of energy. Selection criteria included creativity, feasibility of plan, scalability of technology and leadership team. As a part of this recognition, Dr. Kevin J. Knopp, CEO and co-founder of 908 Devices, will participate in a panel discussion at IHS CERAWeek: Accelerating Game Changing Oil & Gas Technologies to Manage an Industry in Transition. Dr. Knopp will join industry experts to discuss how new technologies are being leveraged to meet current challenges in the industry.

Through previously established partnerships with Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (SAEV) and Schlumberger (SLB), 908 Devices has been actively developing devices, powered by patented its high-pressure mass spectrometry (HPMSTM) technology, for the oil & gas industry. To date this market has been conservative, and rightfully so. Given the current price of oil, there is demand for new devices that can provide cost-effective process efficiency beyond the capabilities of today’s implementations. By bringing its HPMS technology to the oil & gas community, qualitative and quantitative analysis capabilities for inline, at-line, laboratory and field-based applications will be achievable with one rugged, portable device. Companies will benefit from reduced analysis times – from minutes to seconds – and expanded capabilities for compound analysis at each stage of petrochemical processing.
