Markes International (Llantrisant, UK), the world leader in thermal desorption technology, has announced the opening of a new Chinese subsidiary, Markes Instruments (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The new operation will support Markes’ existing network of Chinese distributors and sales agents, and will be spearheaded by a recently-appointed General Manager, Lili Tang.
Speaking about Markes’ new operation in China, Managing Director Tim Hawkins said “After 20 years of leading innovation in our field and delivering world-beating analytical instrumentation to over 60 countries across the world, we are now building a new team of specialists to support our long-established partners in China, alongside investment in monitoring technologies focused on Chinese requirements. Lili shares our drive for excellence and our passion for engaging with our partners to deliver the best results for our customers, and her appointment comes at a truly exciting time in Markes’ growth story.”
Tang was previously the Director of Jiangsu Environmental Monitoring Centre and Professor in Nanjing University of Science & Technology, where she led province-wide atmospheric monitoring networks and established systems for air and ozone quality management. She joins Markes during a period of significant growth in the environmental monitoring market in China, and will be establishing Markes’ new Technology Support Centre in Shanghai along with an online portal.
About Markes
Markes International manufactures specialist analytical instrumentation for trace organic analysis, and is renowned as a global market leader for analytical thermal desorption. In May 2017 Markes’ automated air-monitoring systems for both canister and tube sampling were officially endorsed by the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection. This cements their long-standing reputation as high-performance, well-designed and cost-effective technologies for the analysis of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs). Markes’ systems are sold to a wide range of research, government and industrial/service laboratory customers operating in sectors including environmental monitoring, homeland security and forensic investigations, petrochemical analysis, materials testing, and flavour & fragrance profiling.
Markes is part of the Mulheim-based German family business Schauenburg International Group, and has technical support centres in the UK, USA and Germany.
