German biotech company Phaeosynt, developer of the world’s first fully animal-free pregnancy test under the brand hey mela, announces a strategic expansion into B2B antibody production and white-label diagnostic partnerships.

The company’s proprietary plant-based antibody platform enables the production of fully recombinant, animal-free antibodies for regulated diagnostic applications. Following the successful market launch of its consumer product in Germany, Phaeosynt is now shifting its primary focus toward scalable B2B infrastructure.

Building a European Animal-Free Antibody Platform

The global diagnostic industry still largely relies on animal-based antibodies. Many antibodies are either generated in animals or produced in animal cell cultures, which often require additional animal-derived components during manufacturing. In contrast, Phaeosynt has developed a proprietary plant-based expression platform built on microalgae (diatom) systems. This technology enables the fully recombinant production of antibodies without animal immunization and without the use of animal-derived production components.

The platform is designed to serve a broad range of diagnostic fields from fertility and women’s health to infectious diseases and other rapid testing applications. In addition to supplying recombinant antibodies as a B2B partner, Phaeosynt supports the development of white-label diagnostic products, including pregnancy tests, for European retail and healthcare brands.

By combining diatom-based antibody expression technology, Phaeosynt positions itself as an infrastructure partner for next-generation sustainable diagnostics rather than a single-product company.

Strategic Growth Phase and Financing Round

To accelerate this transition into a scalable European antibody infrastructure platform, Phaeosynt has opened its next financing round. The raised capital will be deployed to expand the antibody development pipeline across multiple diagnostic fields, scale diatom-based production capacity, deepen white-label and industrial partnerships, and strengthen regulatory and international market access capabilities.
