Since January 21st, AB SCIEX and its touring partners, Phenomenex and Peak Scientific, have been travelling across Europe with their mobile laboratory. The tour provides opportunities for anyone interested in using mass spectrometry and separation science to learn more about the most recent equipment. On the 8th and 9th April, the mobile laboratory was in Berlin for AB SCIEX's 5th LC-MS/MS Berliner Symposium.

The first day was an optional training course for AB SCIEX's customers, providing them with the opportunity to enhance their understanding of a variety of software tools and mass spectrometry instruments.

The second day of the Berliner Symposium was split into two. Speakers of the plenary morning session included Prof Dr. Gérard Hopfgartner, Universität Genf, Prof Dr Dietrich Volmer, Universität des Saarlandes, Dr. Thomas Grobosch, Labor Berlin - Charité Vivantes GmbH and Prof. Ruedi Aebersold, ETH Zurich.

During the afternoon, four parallel sessions took place based on each of the four main application areas: food and environmental analysis; biochemistry and "omics"; clinical research and toxicological analysis and pharmaceutical analysis. Each session included talks by highly renowned scientists and developed on the use of mass spectrometry within a particular application area.

AB SCIEX's application specialists presented new analytical approaches and strategies with the AB SCIEX TripleTOF® 5600+ System and the latest QTRAP® System. Participants were also able to visit the MASStastic Voyage mobile laboratory and view the instruments themselves. Specialists were on hand to answer any questions about the instruments and associated application software.

In total, over 550 people attended the Berliner Symposium in Europe´s largest convention centre including researchers from industries and laboratories across Germany. Fifteen companies, including AB SCIEX, had booths at the Symposium and a poster session offered additional opportunities for discussion. Attendees also enjoyed networking at an informal get-together, which was accompanied by a live jazz band. The next AB SCIEX LC-MS/MS Symposium is expected to take place in 2015. More details will be made available nearer the time.
