Das Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (ACIB) ist das österreichische K2-Zentrum für industrielle Biotechnologie. Es ist als Kompetenzzentrum ein Zusammenschluss von derzeit sieben Universitäten und 25 Projektpartnern, darunter bekannte Namen wie BASF, DSM, Sandoz, Biocrates Life Science, Ionimed Boehringer Ingelheim RCV, Jungbunzlauer, F. Hoffmann-LaRoche, Novartis oder VTU Technology. Eigentümer sind die Universitäten Innsbruck und Graz, die TU Graz, die BOKU Wien sowie Joanneum Research. Beim ACIB forschen und arbeiten zurzeit rund 150 Beschäftigte an 25 Forschungsprojekten. Schon im ersten Jahr zählt man 3 Patente, 26 Publikationen und 57 Konferenzbeiträge. Das Budget bis 31.12. 2014 macht ca. 60 Mio. Euro aus. Öffentliche Fördermittel (58% des Budgets) bekommt das ACIB von der Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft der Republik Österreich (FFG), der Standortagentur Tirol, der Steirischen Wirtschaftsförderung (SFG) und der Technologieagentur der Stadt Wien *
