University of Greifswald
The University of Greifswald was founded in 1456 on the initiative of the Mayor of Greifswald, Heinrich Rubenow, who also became its first Rector. It is thus one of the oldest academic educational institutions in Germany and in the Baltic Sea region. Today it is a modern university by the Baltic with a wealth of international connections. There are four big focal areas of work at the University: * Life Sciences, including Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomathematics, and Psychology * Physics and Geosciences * Cultural Interaction, especially Northern and Eastern Europe, including German, Slavonic, Finnish and Baltic Studies, Communication Science, Philosophy, Theology, Church Music, Fine Arts, and Art History * State and Economy, including microeconomics, law, and political science. *
